Delhi Capitals started their IPL 2020 journey on Day 2 of the competition in the UAE as they locked horns with Kings XI Punjab. KL Rahul leading the KXIP side for the first time in the IPL made an entry as the 12th standing captain of the franchise. The Indian top-order batsman’s appearance as captain made KXIP become the IPL franchise with most number of captains till date in 13 editions of the marquee T20 league.
The second in the list of teams with most IPL captains is Punjab’s opponent in today’s game- Delhi Capitals. The Delhi-based franchise were previously known as the Delhi Daredevils and the name was only changed to Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2018. The franchise has had 11 captains with Shreyas Iyer being the latest one as he was named captain mid-way in the 2019 season replacing Gautam Gambhir. Iyer had replaced Gambhir as the franchise’s captain mid-way of the 2019 IPL season.
While Gambhir captained Delhi in 25 IPL games, Shreyas Iyer will now overhaul his record as he will lead the side for the 26th time in the tournament’s history. Iyer is, thus, also set to become the 2nd most capped captain of the Delhi Capitals with only Virender Sehwag taking the lead ahead of Iyer with 52 IPL matches as Delhi’s captain.
The match between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings, Shreyas Iyer’s 26th game as Delhi’s captain, is scheduled to start at 7.30 PM IST on Friday and will be staged at the Dubai International Stadium.
